Why Rewilding Britain
Your support to Rewilding Britain will build a future with hope for nature, people and planet.
Rewilding has been widely identified as a vital way to tackle global biodiversity loss and the climate crisis.
Rewilding Britain has been at the forefront of this movement since 2015, and is today one of its most experienced and active participants. We remain the only organisation dedicated exclusively to rewilding across Britain.
By supporting or partnering with Rewilding Britain, you will build a future filled with hope for nature, people and planet.
Five ways your support can make a difference
We unpack how your support can:
- Empower rewilders
- Inspire a movement
- Demand change
- Build evidence
- Invest in the future
1. Empower rewilders
We enable rewilders to put their passion and ideas into action. We encourage them to think bigger and faster by providing the investment and expertise they need to carry out effective rewilding projects.
Through our Rewilding Innovation Fund and Rewilding Challenge Fund, we’ve supported more than 46 rewilding projects with over £700,000, funding carbon capture, seagrass restoration, tree seeding and trophic species reintroductions.
Because rewilding generates healthy, diverse landscapes that are self-supporting, even small investments have the potential to produce big, long-term results.
Your support will enable us to:
Scale-up our funding of rewilding projects to accelerate nature’s recovery in Britain and have even more impact.
2. Inspire a movement
Our rapidly growing Rewilding Network is bringing together an unstoppable community of rewilders — on land and at sea — who inspire and support each other to create a wilder, more biodiverse and more climate-change resilient Britain.
We have connected more than 900 rewilding practitioners to share their experiences and innovations with each other, maximising the collective environmental, ecological and social impacts of their rewilding projects.
Your support will enable us to:
Expand and strengthen the Rewilding Network even further, driving up the quantity and quality of rewilding taking place across the country.
3. BUILD EVIDENCE
We carry out essential research from looking at the impacts of rewilding to how best to build a green economy — one where both people and nature thrive. Together with Rewilding Network sites, and other key rewilding stakeholders, we are developing a monitoring framework to provide a go-to source of live rewilding data. Our mapping work is identifying areas with the greatest potential for nature restoration without trade-offs in terms of land or marine productivity.
Your support will enable us to:
Use the power of data to maximise the benefits of rewilding for nature, people and planet, unlock new funding streams, and inform our governmental policy advice.
4. DEMAND CHANGE
We are a catalyst for rewilding debate and action, playing an important role in mainstreaming rewilding in Britain. We’re contributing to policy breakthroughs such as the consideration of rewilding in finance and legislation. By supporting early-stage feasibility studies for species reintroductions, we’re paving the way for ambitious rewilders.
Your support will enable us to:
Build political backing for rewilding so it is supported and incentivised.
5. INVEST IN THE FUTURE
We’re the only charity with the focus, capacity and resources to achieve our ambitious vision. Our diverse team of people possess the skills and experience needed to champion rewilding and make change happen across Britain. With our supporters and partners by our side, we can continue to be independent, agile and effective long into the future.
Your support will enable us to:
Do so much more to rewild Britain, responding to the ever-changing external environment to keep driving forward the most hopeful and positive environmental movement of our time.
Funding from charitable trusts and foundations is crucial to our work, accounting for around 35% of our funding. Unrestricted grants give us the flexibility to channel funds to where the potential for impact is greatest, while restricted grants may be targeted to specific areas of our work. The relationships we foster are so much more than financial support. They’re about having the same values, mission and principles — shared learning, respect and support.
If your trust or foundation chooses to support our work, you can expect the following:
- A meaningful relationship, keeping you informed about the difference your funding is making in line with your charitable objectives.
- An investment that generates measurable social and environmental impact, creating a wilder and healthier future for all.
- A commitment to accountability, ensuring that together we make further progress on equity, diversity and inclusion, financial transparency, and learning.

Philanthropists are increasingly recognising the urgent need to support environmental causes. They understand that addressing the most pressing issues of our time — biodiversity loss and climate breakdown — have wider impacts on people’s health, wellbeing and economic prosperity. However, with philanthropic donations to environmental charities still below 6%, we have a collective responsibility to do more.
By supporting Rewilding Britain’s work, you will:
- Make a direct impact on the level and effectiveness of rewilding in Britain, and bring about wider environmental, social and economic benefits.
- Receive regular updates on the difference you are making and have opportunities to visit rewilding sites and meet experts.
- Be invited to events (in person and online) that let you connect with other philanthropists and rewilding professionals.
- Be able to engage with Rewilding Britain’s work more deeply through opportunities that are appropriate for you.
